Penelope Extensions

Penelope Extension Releases

The Penelope extension works with Thunderbird 3.0.4 or higher. For more information about Penelope see the main wiki page.

The current version of Penelope is 1.0rc2 Windows | 1.0rc2 Mac | 1.0rc2 Linux. However, it is recommended that you use a version of Penelope with a Eudora OSE release to ensure maximum compatibility and functionality.

This release contains mainly critical fixes for the 1.0 release. See the Eudora release notes for more details.

» Note to Firefox users: When you click a link to an XPI file, Firefox thinks you are trying to install an extension to Firefox and brings up the install dialog. This is not going to work. Instead, Right-click on the links for the extension and save to disk, then install from within Thunderbird's Tools->Add-ons window.

» Note to Safari users: When you click on the http link, Safari may try to load the XPI file as plain text. To avoid this, right-click (or control-click) on it and select Download Linked File from the contextual menu.

Previous Versions

Previous versions of Penelope are available:

• 1.0rc1
  • This release improves upon the Search Message window regarding indexed searching, and a number of other improvements to mailbox windows.

• 1.0b1
  • This release provides fixes to a variety of items, and defaults a number of preferences to be similar to Classic Eudora.

• 0.5a5
  • This release addresses a number of issues with automatic message selection and focus in mailboxes.

• 0.5a4
  • This release addresses a number of issues that arose with under-the-hood changes to Thunderbird in version 3.0b3, especially involving mailbox display and tabs.

• 0.5a3
  • This release adds a number of new features and bug fixes around mailbox and message tabs and the customize toolbar dialog.

• 0.5a2
  Main new features:
  • Various tab additions/improvements
  • Added shift key modifier to the Transfer menu items and toolbar buttons to do copy vs. move.
  • Holding down alt/option when clicking on an open mailbox toolbar button will now do a transfer.
  • "Show message preview pane" setting added to Penelope pref panel. If on (which it is by default), then the preview pane is shown at its last saved position. If it's off then both the preview pane and the splitter before it are hidden.

  Main new features:
  • Classic Eudora Redirect feature added
  • Open windows saved between sessions
  • Mailboxes that receive new messages are automatically opened
  • Opened mailboxes automatically select a recent unread message
  • Mailbox window font name and size prefs

• 0.1a22
  The main thrust of the changes was to make the extension more compatible with Thunderbird 3.0 (trunk) versions. There are a number of minor changes as well:
  • Auto-compaction was turned on by default, and is set to a threshold of 10 MB.
  • Hitting space to go through unread messages is now fixed.
  • Ctrl/Cmd+M now mapped to Mail Check instead of New Message.
  • Junk, Not Junk, Delete menu items fixed.
  • Junk, Not Junk shortcuts (Ctrl/Cmd + [Shift] + J) fixed.
  • "Make Address Book Entry" menu item now in correct spot in Tools menu (Mac only).
  • Empty menu items in Tools menu removed.
  • Customize Toolbar dialog fixed under Mac and general UI improvements including moving strings to localizable files.

• 0.1a19
• 0.1a16: fixes errors on the javascript console and makes the Penelope extension compatible with addons.mozilla.org.
