Venue problems

  • there are no chairs on the main area
    • for now we have been bringing chairs from other sections of the building and bringing them back
    • 50 or 75 IKEA foldable chairs that can be racked will be ideal
    • (this was the biggest problem when I ran my event; GM)
  • there is no water tap
    • we have to fill up jars and bring them from the chicken or provide supervised access to the kitchen-office area
  • the door from the community space to the kitchen cannot be locked
    • it requires keeping an eye at the door
  • there are no garbage containers inside of the furniture that has 3 holes which is supposed to have garbage containers
    • we have to bring bins from other sections of the building
  • we need a portable screen to do projection
    • so far we have been able to project unto one of the blinds since it's dark outside
  • catering needs to have a waiter
    • groups of 15+ that are getting food need to have a waiter on hand to do clean-up and bussing (busing?) throughout the event

Mission packages/swags

  • we should get packages of our mission and how to get involved in the ToMozSpace for people to pick up
  • poster explaining the mission
  • ReMo Toolkit
  • Firefox brand toolkit
  • Swags (stickers and others) to just grab
  • Marcia's postcards' idea?

Logistics

  • determine procedure to grant access
  • write down usage of equipment & wireless
  • write down parking and transit info

Events/ideas

These are events that we could do and all it needs someone who would like to drive them.

  • "Mission day"
    • Talk about the importance of the Mozilla mission and how to empower others to pass on the message
  • "Demo day"
    • Showing what the browser can do and why it is important
  • "MozCamp"
  • "OpenSource Week" (October)
  • "Reading Week crash course" (October/February)
  • "Web Maker Science Fair"
    • Basically a show and tell for a bunch of cool projects. We've run them at the Mozilla Festivals and they're super popular.
  • Something education and learning themed
    • Gather together teachers and educators working on hacking, digital literacy, etc. Matt Price and others have expressed interest. I bet Greg Wilson would be into it, too. + of course Dave Humphrey and others.
  • Popcorn Camp
    • Get local film makers together with developers interested in learning more about Mozilla Popcorn. Leverage the success of Kat Cizek's "One Millionth Tower" project
  • Hacker Space
    • Invite reps from the Toronto hacker space to do something cool with Arduino. Or lasers. Or something.
  • TedX Toronto
    • We have several points of contact. Would be great to host some inspiring tech / thought leadership talks, TED / Ignite style.
  • Mobile Android QA Testers
  • Newbies Workshop
    • Event for folks who want to start to contribute to Mozilla
  • XBox Competition
