Summary: The Mozilla communications team helps Mozilla's stories reach the world. This session will be an introduction communications at Mozilla and an overview of the communications reps special interest group. We will do an in depth training on comms reps functions and vocabulary, how to pitch media in your locale. The last half of the session will be an abridged version of media training so reps feel comfortable interacting with media as a Mozilla representative.

Things to be covered: • In-depth communications training session including how to write Mozilla-specific pitches, how to pitch to media in your markets, how to best work with the media and more. • Discussion on how to work effectively with a geo-distributed team ensuring we have cohesive and consistent messages across the globe • Feedback workshop from reps on current process, tools and communications models between Mozilla communications and communications reps. The final deliverable will be an agreed upon updated set of communications and processes. • Media/speaker training to enable communications reps to better work with the media and act as Mozilla representatives.


How your session furthers the MozCamp Goals: This session focuses on training sessions aimed at developing community building and goal-setting skills

Expected Outcome or Deliverable: At the end of this session we hope to have significant feedback and action items on how to improve the tools and communications process for volunteer Mozillians who contribute to PR. We ideally would also have new media trained Mozilla spokespeople.

Desired Audience Type or Skill-set: Current Mozilla communications reps or people interested in becoming a rep.
